200th anniversary exhibition at the Natural History Museum, London: Response

Darwin: 200th anniversary exhibition at the Natural History Museum, London. 2:57pm Wednesday 7th January 2009. By Sylvia Vetta

The Oxford Times has an interesting section about Darwin's 200th Birthday exibit. The Natural History Museum in London has an impressive Darwin theme it seems. One part discusses his trip on the Beagle and how he almost missed the trip, thereby effecting his conclusions about evolution. The captain of the Beagle was Robert Fitzroy. Writer Sylvia Vetta speaks of captain Fitzroy meeting Darwin almost 30 years later.

Their relationship seems the stuff of Greek tragedy for Fitzroy was in Oxford in June 1860 on the day of the great debate on Darwin’s theory of evolution, based on the observations he made on that epic journey. Waving his Bible and shouting “Blasphemy”, Fitzroy was racked with feelings of guilt when he realised that he was indirectly responsible for this theory that rocked his vision of the world.

While not "shouting Blasphemy", Most conservative Christians are waving their Bibles and saying God's Word is true Figuratively! He is the creator of everything seen and unseen. Fitzroy had no reason to feel responsible for Darwin's conclusions.

Darwin was a great observer. He observed nature and took copious notes about what he saw. Anyone reading Darwin's biographies will note there was plenty of favorable presupposing Darwin had regarding evolution. Many commentators would like one to think that Darwin was working from objectivity but his evolution conclusions were from his subjectivity of observable data.

It was a happy day for him when he gave us our new lives, through the truth of his Word, and we became, as it were, the first children in his new family. JAMES 1:18 LB
