It is no surprise to those who know Dawkins when he makes statements that he is not sure if their is a God.
Richard Dawkins: I can't be sure God does not exist - Telegraph: "Prof Dawkins said that he was “6.9 out of seven” sure of his beliefs. “I think the probability of a supernatural creator existing is very very low,” he added.
He also said that he believed it was highly likely that there was life on other planets."
He is likely to make the same statement regarding fairies, claiming he is an agnostic to the existence of them. But the fundamental meaning of agnosticism is related to God.
Definition of Agnostic from Merriam Webster1. a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god2. a person who is unwilling to commit to an opinion about something
The word "agnostic" was developed by Thomas Huxley referring specifically to the existence of God. Dawkins knows this fact, yet he would evade the real issue at hand and that is a Creator God, that does not act according to human wishes.
Another interesting thing in regard to the Telegraph article is Dawkins' faith in life on other planets. It is remarkable in a way that teachers could be shunned from suggesting the world and our lives are not accidents, yet will be applauded to suggest other intelligent life is out there. The panspermia theory suggests that asteroids may have delivered the initial single cells for life to exist on Earth. In other words our schools can suggest life came to earth from other planets, but not that life came from a creator God.
