Were the Apolo 8 Astronauts Stupid Creationists?

Here is the Apollo 8 Mission's reading from a portion of Genesis 1. It is interesting that Christianity and specifically Creation is brought out in their mission. There is a criticism of Creationism that states that by promoting it in our schools we are promoting ignorance in overall education. These critics forget that foundations of modern science were established because of Christianity. Even the philosophy of atheism has it's roots in Christianity in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

The rigorous training of an astronaut not only involves physical fitness but also multiple intelligences. Understanding of physics, computer systems, astronomy, meteorology, or just some of the studies needed in understanding space flight. Emotional fitness is critical as well and isn't it interesting that Apollo 8 astronauts advocated creationism? I think this is another think worth mentioning in public schools.

ID Should be Taught in America's Science Classrooms

This blog post is a response to Commentary: Where does intelligent design fit in at school?
David Prejean • February 18, 2009

No academic discipline is an island to itself. What academic disciplines are needed to understand science? Of course one must know how to read and write to understand science on a basic cognitive level. This is not debatable, however in public schools in America, there are thousands of children who sit in science classrooms and are illiterate. One must know how to read and write to understand science.

To understand biology, one must understand chemistry. To understand chemistry one must understand algebra. Today there are thousands of high school students who are severely deficient in understanding biology because of poor math skills. We must emphasize math for students to understand science.

To understand biology sufficiently one needs to know history of biology. If future discoveries in science are to happen than anchors of previous discoveries must be understood. Biases of scientists past and present are important to understand how conclusions were made. The beginning of modern science was founded upon intelligent design as a bias. The lives of John Newton, Francis Bacon, Charles Lyell, William Buckland and hundreds of other scientists held the similar bias of beleving that God created everything. Religious bias did not hinder these men in their pursuit of emperical truth it only enhanced it.

In addition to reading, writing, math, history, brought into the classroom, controversy should be addressed as well. What better way to understand a precept then to have its antithesis presented. By contrasting ID and evolution, one will understand far better than if opposing viewpoints held by scientists who advocate ID are ignored.

North Dakota House Gives Fertilized Eggs Human Status

The measure that would make it all but impossible to get an abortion in the state now goes to the North Dakota Senate after the state House.http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/18/north-dakota-house-gives-fertilized-eggs-human-status/

Fox News reported this February 18.

The bill declares that "any organism with the genome of homo sapiens" is a person protected by rights granted by the North Dakota Constitution and state laws.

The measure's sponsor, Rep. Dan Ruby, R-Minot, said the legislation did not automatically ban abortion. Ruby has introduced bills in previous sessions of the Legislature to prohibit abortion in North Dakota.

Hopefully the North Dakota senate will pass this bill to endorse the value of life. I do not know how it is worded, but hopefully it will not be caught in legal arguments of liability. For example, because a woman has a spontaneous abortion, would a police report have to be filled out?

This is another example where intelligent design could be promoted in public schools. Discussion of issues like this in civics, sociology, and biology could be addressed. Evolution philosophy biases against this bill could be discussed in encouraging critical thinking skills.

La Brea Tar Pit scientists declare new discoveries

Old News is New News

The discovery took place in 2006 and the news was made then. Remains of thousands of critters were discovered in a new area of the famous La Brea tar pits. After work was beun in an area once occupied by a parking lot. Here is what the AP states.

Among the finds is a near-intact mammoth skeleton and bones of saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, bisons, horses, ground sloths and other mammals.

Researchers discovered 16 fossil deposits under an old parking lot next to the tar pits in 2006 and began sifting through them last summer.

Officials of the Page Museum at the tar pits plan to formally announce their findings on Wednesday. The discoveries could double the museum's Ice Age collection.
This is an example of old news being new news. Why is it submitted again to the main stream media? Obviously there is a need for funding. Money is motivating factor of this news story just as the recent story of methane on Mars story. The museum at La Brea and the folks of NASA have the same agenda - get money by announcing old news again.

When examining other discoveries relating to evolution you will notice a similar agenda in news releases. Does these news stories minimize the reliability of the discoveries? Perhaps not, but one must asks questions relating to perceptions. Perceptions can be the difference between subjective inquiry versus objective observations.

Galaxy has 'billions of Earths' Response

Star Trek or should I say Planet Trek is starting from March 7th, when the Kepler Mission will be launched. The photo on this blog shows the Cygnus Region of where the Kepler telescope will focus.

The claim has been made that 100 billion earth like planets are yet to be discovered. In the past 15 years there has been 300 planets identified outside of our solar system. Here is what the news from BBC on Feb 15, 2009 says."
Galaxy has 'billions of Earths'

The number of stars points to there being many rocky planets. Dr Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution of Science said many of these worlds could be inhabited by simple lifeforms.

Dr Boss estimates that Nasa's Kepler mission, due for launch in March, should begin finding some of these Earth-like planets within the next few years.
The next logical leap using evolutionary assumptions is to suggest that their are numerous civilized planets.
Recent work at Edinburgh University tried to quantify how many intelligent civilisations might be out there. The research suggested there could be thousands of them.
Is this science or science fiction? Is a belief in aliens a belief that is preferred to be discussed in public schools? Why then are people making such a fuss of intelligent design being taught? ID is open to the suggestion that life on earth came about from outside of our solar system. Is this not information that the Kepler Mission is open to receiving? I say let ID be taught along with the Kepler Mission.

Evolution Weekend is Here

US churches to discuss evolution vs creation. By DIONNE WALKER, Associated Press Writer Dionne Walker, Associated Press Writer – Fri Feb 13, 8:30 pm ET

"We have to give God a lot more credit than we give him now — we need to give him the benefit of the doubt that his word includes evolution," said Mike Ghouse, president of the World Muslim Congress, a Dallas-based union of 3,000 Muslims that hosted its first ever Evolution Weekend discussion Friday.

The evolution vs. creation debate has simmered for at least the last 150 years since Darwin's "On the Origin of Species." That volume first suggested populations evolve over generations through a process of natural selection.

The second weekend of February every year is deemed evolution weekend by liberal Christians, Jews and now Muslims. Initially, Evolution Sunday was the name given to this special event. Those that espouse this view have ignored the Bible that special creation of the world took place, including inorganic and organic evolution. Over 950 churches signed an online petition that they would teach evolution as God's mechanism for everything to come to be.

Now some Muslims are questioning divine creationism.

If the Bible's view of origins is disputed than, doctrines of salvation, Heaven, Hell and Jesus are also in question. The devil first deceived humans by questioning the authority of God's word.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"Genesis 3:1
How have others today ignored the word of God because of doubt. Evolution Weekend is a serpent in the tree confusing Christianity.

Academic Freedom Day is Today February 12, 2009

Happy Academic Freedom Day!

Information about the 200th birthday of Darwin is found all around the world today. Here are three of the most prominent creation and ID websites and what they are posting on Darwin Day and Academic Freedom Day.

Answers In Genesis. Answers in Genesis is a young earth creationist organization lead by Ken Ham. Institute of Creation Research,

Exactly 200 years ago today, two very famous people were born. Both men greatly impacted the world, but their legacies were quite different.

Institute Creation Research. February Acts and Facts. By Henry Morris III, D.Min.ICR is one of the oldest and most renowned organization of scientists who advocate young earth creationism.

Morris speaks about the growing compromise among Evangelical leaders to accept evolution

Discovery Institute has several articles including:

Darwin's Birth Day. By: Geoffrey Simmons. Amazon.com. February 11, 2009
Had Charles Darwin been able to witness his own gestation period, might he have changed his mind about the evolution of mankind? Assuming that he was an honest and keen observer of nature--and the evidence suggests that he was--the answer is a resounding yes. He essentially said so in 1872 when he wrote:

“If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive slight modifications, my theory would ultimately breakdown.”
Discovery Institute is the world's best known intelligent design, ID, organization.

Vatican conference will give intelligent design critical study

News of the Vatican Conference on Evolution has been mentioned for some months now. It will be in March. What is new is the openness to examine intelligent design. Most Catholic theologians including the present pope, suggests that God used evolution for everything to occur.

The following information is from "Vatican conference will give intelligent design critical study. By Carol Glatz. Catholic News Service."
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- An upcoming Vatican-sponsored conference on evolution will include critical study of the theory of intelligent design, which, organizers said, represents poor theology and science.

While proponents of intelligent design were not invited to give presentations at the March 3-7 international conference, organizers agreed to discuss how it appeared and developed as a cultural ideology, not as science.
Why were ID scientists not allowed to express their views? The criticism is that ID developed as a cultural ideology is not true. Scientists of the 18th and 19th centuries held creationism ideas.

This sentence is really interesting:
The conference will look at "a correct exegesis" of biblical accounts of creation, said Father Leclerc.
The error of this statement is that the word exegesis should be substituted for eisegeis. When one imposes their own presupposition on the Bible, then this is the opposite of exegesis.

Support for Teaching Academic Freedom Grows

A new Zogby poll on the eve of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday shows a dramatic rise in the number of Americans who agree that when biology teachers teach the scientific evidence for Darwin’s theory of evolution, they also should teach the scientific evidence against it. Surprisingly, the poll also shows overwhelming support among self-identified Democrats and liberals for academic freedom to discuss the “strengths and weaknesses” evolution.

Evolution Philosophy Teaches Only Two Kids per Family

From The Sunday Times. February 1, 2009. Two children should be limit, says green guru. Sarah-Kate Templeton, Health Editor

According to the UK government's green adviser couples who have more than two children are being “irresponsible” by creating an unbearable burden on the environment. Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the government's Sustainable Development Commission, said that curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming. Porritt said, “I am unapologetic about asking people to connect up their own responsibility for their total environmental footprint and how they decide to procreate and how many children they think are appropriate.”
The Optimum Population Trust, a campaign group of which Porritt is a patron, says each baby born in Britain will, during his or her lifetime, burn carbon roughly equivalent to 2½ acres of old-growth oak woodland - an area the size of Trafalgar Square.

The British population, now 61m, will pass 70m by 2028, the Office for National Statistics says. The fertility rate for women born outside Britain is estimated to be 2.5, compared with 1.7 for those born here. The global population of 6.7 billion is expected to rise to 9.2 billion by 2050.
The story does not mention any threat of over population in the UK as far as food sources are concerned. Using evolutionary philosophy, Porritt focuses on the energy consumption that extra children will take. An environmental footprint excuse is contrary to biblical principles:
Genesis 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;

Psalm 127:3. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

While the Bible does not condemn parents for not having children, there is a strong mandate to encourage the philosophy that children are a blessing from God and not a curse. Evolutionary philosophy condemns parents choice for children. When this choice is suppressed, allegiance is transferred from God's privilege to worldly philosophy. Abortions would be encouraged more than ever thereby taking the lives of millions of more children.

USA Today gets Scope's Trial Date Wrong

Darwin celebrated, despite controversy, on 200th birthday - USATODAY.com

USA Today has produced a thorough article on Darwin and the controversy of evolution.
In the USA, the debate turned similarly acrimonious with the 1927 "Scopes Monkey Trial," in which Tennessee prosecuted schoolteacher John Scopes for teaching evolution.

Scopes lost, but the scorn on the creationist prosecutor, Williams Jennings Bryan, by pundits such as The Baltimore Sun's H.L. Mencken, remained the wider public image of the case, immortalized in the 1960 film Inherit the Wind.

Two things to mention here. The Scope's Trial was in 1925 and not 1927. The film Inherit the Wind had numerous inaccuracies from the actual events of the main trial.

Could it be that USA Today has not checked its facts about what biblical Creation is all about?

Live Birth Baby Killed by Abortion Provider

After nearly three years, a lawsuit comes against an abortion provider.

MIAMI, Fla., January 30, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Tuesday, January 27, 2009, suit was filed by the Thomas More Society in Miami on behalf of Shanice Denise Osbourne, an infant girl who was allegedly murdered in July, 2006.
Evolution theory has not caused the abortion industry in America but it can be argued it has affected it. Over 40 million babies have been killed the since Roe v. Wade case in the early 70s. What took place in Miami should serve as a wake up call not just for the baby named Shanice but for the millions of babies that will be destroyed in the next few years. This week their are babies killed in their mother's womb.

Evolution has contributed to the cultural milieu to Western society in the realm not only of science but of lifestyle. The undesirable are destroyed, less they take energy from more desirable children.

The Associated Press states that "Sycloria Williams went to an abortion clinic outside Miami and paid $1,200 for Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique to terminate her 23-week pregnancy." during the abortion procedure the baby came from her mother's womb alive.
What Williams and the Health Department say happened next has shocked people on both sides of the abortion debate: One of the clinic's owners, who has no medical license, cut the infant's umbilical cord. Williams says the woman placed the baby in a plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.

Police recovered the decomposing remains in a cardboard box a week later after getting anonymous tips.

"I don't care what your politics are, what your morals are, this should not be happening in our community," said Tom Pennekamp, a Miami attorney representing Williams in her lawsuit against Renelique (ren-uh-LEEK') and the clinic owners.

The state Board of Medicine is to hear Renelique's case in Tampa on Friday and determine whether to strip his license. The state attorney's homicide division is investigating, though no charges have been filed. (Fla. doctor investigated in badly botched abortion. By CHRISTINE ARMARIO. Associated Press Writer)
It is amazing that no charges have been filed in this case. A murder has clearly taken place. May this lawsuit be won on behalf of this dead girl's memory. May we remember that creation is a gift of God. Creation is a special aspect of God's love and evolution philosophy has contributed to millions of babies being killed for survival of the fittest sake.

Ben Stein cancels speaking appointment over complaints

Why did Ben Stein cancel his graduation speech with the University of Vermont?

The Associated Press has reported that Stein canceled his scheduled speech at the University of Vermont over criticisms of the university administration to have him.

UVM President Daniel Fogel said he chose Stein based on the warm response to a lecture he gave on campus last spring. Fogel said, however, he was deluged with e-mail messages from people offended by Stein's views of science.

When told about the criticism, Stein — who was to be paid $7,500 — backed out of the May 17 commencement, Fogel said.

"I did not ask him not to come," he said. "I was not going to let him be blind-sided by controversy."
I think there is more to this story than meets the eye. Ben Stein knew that when he took on the orthodox scientific community through Expelled that criticism would come. What other reasons are there for Stein's reluctance to speak for $7,500.

An un-intelligent designed poll for creationism.

Go by and vote your choice on creation and public schools! (As many times as you want!)

Tiger Weekly (Check out tigerweekly.com) is a college publication has a poll on the issue of teaching creationism in public schools. It does not look to good for the creation supporters. Less than 7 percent for creation and 95 percent for evolution only. But Wait! Anyone can vote as many times as they want on this poll. It is apparent that this poll on creationism has not been intelligently designed.

Using the term creationism as opposed to intelligent design is disingenuous. Creationism is a term that carries a connotation of biblical reference while intelligent design does not. (See my previous postings.) The beer advertisement tells of the type of people who are likely to vote in this poll. The majority so far . . . drinks to Darwin.

Baby chimps are as bright as human infants???? Response

Here is a brief response to The Times Online article:

Hello smartypants: baby chimps are as bright as human infants. Jack Grimston. From The Sunday Times. February 1, 2009.

The news reads:

CHIMPANZEES have long been known for their ability to mimic humans. Now scientists have found that baby chimps’ mental development can even be more advanced than children of the same age.

At nine months, the animals are just as curious and capable of recognising carers and familiar objects as the average baby. When compared with infants kept in isolated conditions in orphanages, the animals are even more advanced.
Advancement perception should not be relegated to few comparison and contrasts. This article is another example of evolutionary bias promoted to enable credibility and funding. Humanity in the embryo stage as well as the infant stage follows cognitive development in a procedural way. The process of growth is different from chimps and humans. To suggest that baby chimps are more advanced is to demote humanity. To demote humanity is based on the subjectivity of atheistic evolution.

The Bible says that "All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds." (1Co 15:39) What does this biblical statement mean? It can be argued that humanity has been endowed with a distinctiveness of design. This is one reason why theistic evolutionists have a hard time dealing with the creation of the soul. It does not complement evolution.

In conclusion, even evolutionists who are theist have to ascertain there is a difference between humans and chimps. This difference can only be explained by intelligent design. The soul of a human has no doubt been created by God and thereby distinguishing us from the animal world.
